About Us

As a gateway to the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest outside Brooksville, Florida, Spotted Dance Ranch is the perfect getaway to stay with your horse to ride the beautiful Croom horse trails. The proprietors of Spotted Dance Ranch, John Holzwart and Kym Rouse Holzwart, live on site and are experienced equestrians and trail riders. Spotted Dance Ranch represents not only the union of John and Kym's love of horses but also of each other, and they are dedicated to making your stay comfortable and your trail rides awesome!

Since retiring to Florida from Wisconsin, John has been leading trail rides throughout North and Central Florida for years with his Spotted Saddle Horses, so much so that he is known as Ridin' John throughout the trail riding community. In addition to volunteering many hours developing and maintaining trails on Southwest Florida Water Management District lands, John has worked with the Florida Forever Back Country Horsemen and Florida Forest Service designing, developing, and maintaining the Croom horse trails. Since he knows the Croom horse trails like the back of his hand, John can help you design an awesome trail ride.

Formally trained as an ecologist, Kym is a multi-generational native Floridian who has been riding horses for almost 60 years. She spent her childhood riding hunter-jumper in Miami during the school year and trail riding on and around the family farm in North Carolina during the summers. After graduating from college, she bought and trained an Appaloosa and became an avid trail rider. While living in East Tennessee, she discovered the sport of distance riding, which includes endurance and competitive trail rides. In addition to showing the ranch's Spotted Saddle Horses, she has competed in distance riding events with this gaited breed since the 1990s. Kym regularly rides the Croom horse trails with her Spotted Saddle Horses. An experienced outdoorswoman and naturalist, Kym can help you design a hike, mountain bike ride, or canoe/kayak trip.
